I received an email days into the delay letting me know about the delay. It took hours of phone calls, again, to speak to a human about the situation. It took a full day of phone calls to reach a human to deal with this issue. I do the heart healthy menu, pick my own meals, the 31 day. The meals looked like institutional fare and their taste was disappointing. But in a house full of food, including snacks bought for my 7-year-old sons, I had a hard time cutting calories. I knew that I could lose weight just by eating less. Let me begin by saying that I have been a customer for over a year and when it worked, the service was great. Use this as a warning, I will of course report them to the bbb, but at this point seems it may be pointless. There were dozens of companies I could have chosen, though it is hard to say how many are in the business at any one time. (I later learned that the founders of Nu-Kitchen sold it in 2008 to Nutrisystem, the national diet food company. In fact, they called me multiple times a day in the three days I was deciding whether to sign up. Negotiate the price a bit if you feel it is too expensive. Three deliver daily, while the fourth, eDiets, sends a large package once a week. And when I read the ingredients, I was dismayed. They suspended service for 6 days, with no notice. And I do hope I am able to come and update this at some future date because I was quite excited to get started with this service. Only down side, not a big fan of egg whites, not sure. NYTimes.

This morning, I woke to find no delivery and no notice of delivery suspension (likely due to another minor snowstorm--I received mail and UPS packages today when the weather was WORSE than it would have been during the delivery window). I was promised that service would resume today. A single breakfast item contained mechanically separated turkey, sugar, beef stock, silicon dioxide and smoke flavoring, to name just a few. After online searches and conversations with friends, I decided to compare the offerings of four companies: Zone Manhattan, Chefs Diet, Nu-Kitchen and eDiets. All four would deliver the meals to my door in Brooklyn. My hunch was that any diet plan would work, if I stuck to it. (I was also looking for affordability, though I suspected that — perversely — I might take a diet more seriously if it hurt me in the wallet. The couple explained they were having diet meals delivered, and that they had tried several companies. To me, portion control meant limiting myself to one of the three sleeves inside a box of Ritz crackers. I decided to do the same, knowing I would never be able to stick to a diet if I had to do the buying and cooking myself. As of right now, I am planning to cancel my service and find a service that actually delivers their food and has some basic understanding of customer service. My first day on the program, I received an incorrect item. While I appreciate that weather happens and mistakes happen, there is NO EXCUSE for their lack of communication and poor handling of a new customer who just shelled out a significant sum of money. ) Continue reading the main story.
